Effective Way to Negotiation Voice Over Rates
The word negotiation alone can be a trigger for some and cause anxiety. I'm here to tell you that with a little preparation and confidence, you can set aside that fear FOREVER. Negotiation involves having those difficult conversations to ensure that both sides come to an agreement that works for either party. Please understand this is essential because you will most likely have to negotiate a VO rate more often than you think. It might be a case where the client really wants to use you but they have a limited budget, the client may be tight with their money, another VO artist has quoted them a lower price or you may just believe you're worth more than what they are offering. Whatever the case, it's time to get your negotiation skills up to par.
Let's be honest, most of us don't have the skills to even know what to ask. The amount could be too low or the counter offer might be too high. Let's discuss some of the things needed to be an effective negotiator.
Emotional Intelligence - Managing your emotions so it doesn't cloud your judgment.
Planning - You must plan to better anticipate a negative response, push back or a counter offer you may not agree with.
Communication - Being able to communicate effectively can determine the tone and flow of the negotiation.
Decision Making - At some point you have to decide to accept or deny the offer. The negotiation can't go on forever.
Persuasion - How well can you plead your case and make someone see things your way? Persuasion can go a long way in negotiating.
Self Value - Always know your worth and be willing to walk away if you feel as though you are being undervalued. All money ain't good money.
